Introducing our new club CPDO Lynn Koelman

De La Salle Palmerston FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Lynn Koelman to the position of Coach and Player Development Officer (CPDO) for the club.

Lynn has extensive rugby experience, both as a professional player and as a coach. A Dutch international, she has played in New Zealand, USA, Spain and, more recently, in Super Rugby Womens for the Western Force in Australia. She has also worked as a coach in schools in New Zealand and Australia and as a Development Officer for the NSW Rugby region in Australia.

As CPDO, Lynn will report directly to the club’s Director of Rugby, Norman Byrne, and she will also have a “dotted line” to the Chair of Mini/Youth, Cathal Ryan. She will work with coaches and players across the full Mini/Youth spectrum, for both the boys and girls squads. Other key aspects of Lynn’s role will include:

  • Redesigning the Salmo Mini/Youth Coaching Pathway document – updating to a more current format.

  • Liaising with local schools and supporting their rugby programmes with a club recruitment and integration lens.

  • Observing squad sessions and engaging with coaching groups, with suggestions and ideas based on extensive experience.

  • Supporting the DoR and the Female Rugby Committee with the evolution of the “DLSP Rugby Integrated Pathway” programme for our female players.

Norman Byrne, Director of Rugby: “I am delighted with our appointment of Lynn to such an important new role in Salmo. She is bringing a wealth of rugby experience and an incredible knowledge of the game to it, together with a fantastic manner and ability to interact with our members right across the club spectrum. I have enjoyed working with her over recent weeks as we put the finishing touches to the role profile and planning. I’m certain that she will be a huge success and make a great contribution to Salmo.”

Cathal Ryan, Chair Mini/Youth Rugby: “Lynn’s appointment to this key role for Mini/Youth rugby in DLSP is another critical building block in our continued roll-out of the club’s Integrated Pathway programme which seeks to support and develop all players and coaches from the minute they arrive in Kirwan Park, through to their transition to the adult section of the club. Lynn will be a great role model for us all and I am looking forward to her support and advice as we move through the rest of this season.”

Lynn Koelman, Coach and Player Development Officer: “I am very pleased and proud to be taking on this role in Salmo, a club that I have very much enjoyed being around over the past couple of months. Both Norm and Cathal are really keen to push on with the development of players and coaches in Mini/Youth and I am both excited and ready to drive this initiative. Most of all, I’m very much looking forward to meeting everyone soon up in Salmo!”

On behalf of everyone at the club, we welcome Lynn to Salmo and wish her every success in her new role.
