Gerry Penney R.I.P.

(15 Nov 2018)

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing earlier today of club stalwart Gerry Penney (seen right here in 2011 with then Club President John Dwyer)

A proud member of the club since 1949 when he walked through the gates of Palmerston (who’s club house was then in Milltown).

He was an old school though as teak front rower, who practiced the “dark arts”with other luminaries including the late Ian Hunter & Norman Pillow.

Since hanging up his boots a number of decades ago, he became synonymous with proudly loudly cheering on his beloved “De La Salle Palmerston”, especially at home games.

An extremely active man, he was known for his regular routine of making his own way up and down from Dundrum to Kilternan on match day.

Regularly preferring to shyly turn down lifts from the many club members who would pull into offer him a lift home.

With one Christmas recently the first team players paying for a taxi to bring him home!!

His side line support was affectionately appreciated by generations of players, who felt his support out on the pitch.

In recent years ill health limited his appearances pitch side and he was sadly missed by many who enquired about his well being.

We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to Anne and his family at this very difficult time.

His Funeral will be held at the Holy Cross church in Dublin on Friday morning at 10:30am.

May he Rest In Peace
