Tag Rugby Event for Habitat for Humanity a Great Success!

(10 Apr 2019)

"A hand up, not a hand out" was how Oisìn Spain summed up Saturday’s charity tag tournament when we got to the end of the day. Raising funds for a good cause and having a great day was the plan and the weather suddenly swung around on Saturday morning to end a drenched and miserable week.

It dried out and people arrived, and we had a tournament on our hands. Over 180 players came to support Habitat for Humanity. Boys, girls, adults, teens and our youngest tagger at 4 made his presence felt.

Teen teams from Pembroke and Wesley College along with the adult teams like our StepInnsiders and the Gold Blends came and took on the home players even seeking to give the all-conquering Eagles a run for their money!

There was some classy play by the visiting teams, some interesting refereeing and perhaps a little imbalance as 20 adults took on the U20’s! Whilst on the bottom pitch the girls team showed their skills, the U11s brought a strong attack and the teens showed their competitive nature.

Emma Slowe was there with balloons and face-paint and music while the chocolate treats were selling out fast in the sunshine. To top it all off, the Step@Salmo put on a mouth-watering BBQ with 1 euro from every sale going towards Habitat for Humanity. Players and supporters alike had a fun day out with tries, laughs and the occasional penalty.

A great day at Salmo supporting a great cause!
