Over the May bank holiday weekend, The Salmo U14s & U15s, attended the Abergavenny Festival of Rugby hosted in Usk in the Welsh mountains about one hour outside Cardiff.
This was the second year DLSP was represented and both teams enjoyed a great event which was extremely well organised. The excellent weather was an added bonus. A total group of just under 70 DLSP members travelled over a three day period.
The U14s probably put in their most consistent performance of the season , graduating out of their section without conceding a single try while playing Welsh and English teams.
They met a Welsh development squad in the semi final and unfortunately were knocked out at that stage. However they can be very proud of their achievement in getting so far and the manner in which they did so
The U15’s started with a wonderful win against Carleon with some stunning attacking rugby. That was followed by a match against the ‘giants’ of Wolverhampton, which Salmo led until the last minute when the Wolves got a breakaway try to share the spoils.
Unbeaten Abergavenny were next up and were under intense pressure from the off as Salmo pressed hard for the vital win. An intercept try gave the home side a slight advantage but didn’t weaken the Salmo resolve. Only a mix up in officiating prevented a Salmo score at the death. A big gap to our final game didn’t help and after a fine start we gave Abertileary a handy couple of scores to send them home happy. A well organised tournament in a beautiful part of Wales, with great hosts. The news of a Leinster semi-final win topped off a fantastic tour. Till next year.....
