Stevie Harte R.I.P.
We would be grateful if you would be able to post this on your website to thank everyone for us. We have also included the poem written by Richard O'Toole as it encompasses all that the club meant to us and everyone we knew who played, trained or coached there. It is the essence of the club itself.
Andrea, Andrew, Stephen and Peter Harte wish to thank sincerely all those who sympathised with us over Steve's passing. We thank all those who came to the services in Clonmel, Dublin and De La Salle Palmerston, the many rugby players, past and present as well as those who came from far to help us celebrate Steve Harte’s life. Donations have been made to both the Irish Cancer Society and Diabetes Ireland. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually please accept this notice as a token of our appreciation
Palmo Stephen Harte
The Dublin mountain heather is begining to age
and colours soften and warm in my head.
It is late September in Kiltiernan,
As children run in that careless way,
across the rough ryegrass
and square studded boots tap dance and mix with the aroma of wintergreen,
approaching young men
studds that press and mark the earth
indent the land
indent my feelings
press hard into my memory -
Stevie you were there
with presence and wild red hair
I imagine
I am once again under sixteen
with you on the team
pushing a silver scrummage machine.
And we plough the M50 before it was built.
Dredge Dublin bay of silt.
and stop in Ringsend for a pint.
But never lose sight of it all-
cause your left foot kept hold of the ball.
Each sunday morning mountainside you thought young men how to glide
and run with the ball do your best
wearing that Palmerston crest.
Stevie was a prop,he broke a rule or two
when the referee was out of view.
He was a prop
strong men that push together in a bind.
Stephen Harte remember his kind,
on this September day.
And rugby the game that men play
the strength that we find
Stephen Harte-
remember his kind.
Poem by Richard O'Toole
Thank you
