Salmo Legend Ed Sheridan Passes Away

Salmo Legend Ed Sheridan Passes Away

(27 Jul 2017)

It is with complete shock and deep sadness, that we have learned of the sudden passing of one of Salmo's favourite sons, our great friend Ed Sheridan.

He was a true "Club" man, who gave a lifetime to Salmo, both on and off the pitch.

He played for the club and when he retired from playing, he coached his sons teams and also later went on to manage a number of adult teams in the club.

In the season just finished he took over the ladies team with his pal and fellow "second rower" Kiwi.

Over a long number of years he was also "The enforcer" at the gate into the club, collecting money for the first team matches, making sure he got every € possible from visiting supporters.

But he also knew every one of the darker arts, as some of our own members "ducked & dived" did their best to get in with out paying, but Ed made sure he got every € for his beloved club.

In 2014 he was deservingly awarded club man of the year at the AGM.

When presented with the award from the then President Ciaran Daly, he received a standing ovation a feat seldom witnessed at an AGM, before or since. A true testament to the regard he was held in by his peers.

But his lasting contribution has to be the way he made time for everyone, but especially visitors. Who he always felt duty proud to make feel welcome and remember their visit to HIS Club.

That he did and this is why this sad news will have touched, not just people associated with Salmo rugby, but rugby people in the wider rugby family who crossed Ed's path.

To the Sheridan family we offer our sincerest condolences at this difficult time.

We will post funeral details as soon as they are confirmed.
