2017 Metropolitan Cup Draws

(08 Jan 2017)

The 1st XV have been handed a 1st round (Metropolitan Cup) tie with Wanderers FC on Sunday January 29th. Wanderers FC are flying high in Metro 3 of the Leinster league and & in spite of the fact that the hosts will go into the game as underdogs due to their league positioning (Metro Division 3) DLSP will not the take the game for granted. The winner will be handed a home quarter-final tie against Greystones RFC or Terenure RFC & the game will take place on Sunday February 19th. Terenure RFC will be aiming for a Metropolitan Cup treble & a consecutive league & cup double. 2016 Leinster League Division 1B Champions Malahide RFC were a testament to junior rugby last season with a narrow 26-24 loss to MU Barnhall RFC in the semi final stages of the competition.

The 2nd XV have been handed a thrilling 1st round (Moran Cup) tie with Railway Union RFC @ Park Avenue on Friday January 27th. The two clubs met in the Jim Byrne Cup quarter-final at the end of August and an injury time try & match winning conversation by man of the match Kevin O'Neill saw DLSP overcome the challenge of Railway 39-38 at Kirwan Park. The winner will await Bective or Monkstown in the quarter-final.

The 3rd XV have been handed a tough opponent in the 1st round of the O'Connor Cup, this being Seapoint RFC on Saturday January 28th @ Kilbogget Park. The two clubs have met twice this season in Metro Division 7 & both games served up an excellent game of rugby. The winner will await Parkmore or Stillorgan in the quarter-final.

The 4th XV will await the winners of the BGF Ravens/Normans 1st round tie in the Guilfoyle-James Cup & the game will take place on Saturday February 11th @ Kirwan Park. Notwithstanding the fact that the hosts will go into the quarter-final as underdogs due to their poor league form DLSP are more than capable of upsetting the odds.
