Introduction

Welcome to 'InSalmo'. This blog is all about giving club members out there an insight in to what's happening with the 1st XV from inside the smelly (or is it smulley) ranks of the first team dressing room.
I think it's very important that our members feel a connection to the 1sts and the individuals involved, and this blog is a way for us to reach out and make that connection.
At the end of the day, we carry the flag for the club and the club is judged on how the 1st team performs on the pitch and the result we achieve in the league. It's a big responsibility but one we're all aware of and accept. This being said, we're all in this together and we're all here to enjoy it. The boys really appreciate all your support.

Blog 4 Monday 26th September 2011

The feeling in the squad is that we’re happy to finally be getting into the real deal this Saturday. Though we’ve lost all 4 matches in the Leinster League, it’s hard to read too much into these games with the typical availability issues you get in early season and a few injuries which have crept in already. Of course, these matches are invaluable for match fitness but the form book goes out the window and counts for nothing come Saturday.

We’ve yet to have a full squad to choose from but won’t be far away from having that luxury this week. I don’t think anyone ever goes into a game without a niggle of some sort but the main concerns are Emmo (groin), Phil De Barra (neck), and Conor Power Jnr (Quad) who are all set to be available again this week after missing last week’s game, however, Jasper (AC Joint) looks to be touch and go. Captain Ken Copeland hasn’t played at all with an ongoing foot problem but is on track to be available and would put his hand up to play on one leg just to lead the team out and rip in. Smulley and Philpot are also back.

The boys have put in a lot of hard work and are really pumped up for Saturday. We all realise the importance of getting off to a good start in the league. We’re confident in our ability and will back ourselves to give a good account…we have the personnel so it’s just a case of nailing the basic things like one on one tackles and handling errors (not least myself!) that have tended to cost us making the most of opportunities we’ve created.

1 UntitledThomond are always tough opposition. They don’t take a backward step so we’ll definitely know we’ve been in a match come the final whistle.

Two more quality training sessions and we’re good to go! Can't wait!

See you Saturday
VB
