A Fine Win for Salmo U20s

A Fine Win for Salmo U20s

(10 Feb 2019)

Salmo's U20s served up another entertaining encounter at Kirwan Park today with a 5-try victory over close rivals Skerries in the JP Fanagan league clash.

It was cold and blustery but the game flowed nicely and kept the chill at bay for the watching home support. A try from James Feeney, converted by Adam Nealon, opened the Salmo account and on the quarter hour the home side were 10-5 to the good as Adam knocked over a fine penalty kick.

A second try courtesy of Ben Buckley Hallion moved the scoreboard to 17-5 and things were looking good for the home side. The visitors, however, were in no mood to lay down and they gave very much as good as they got and crossed for a second try of their own to make it 17-10 for Salmo at half-time.

Jake Finlay produced a moment of individual brilliance as he chipped ahead, scorched down the left touchline and gathered the ball to score, despite the close attentions of the Skerries last line of defence. At 22-10 the visitors could have been forgiven for letting the heads drop, but to their credit they battled back to 29-22 as the rain arrived to make things even more interesting.

Adam Nealon notched Salmo's fourth try to secure the bonus point but it wasn't until Mikey Holly used all his pace and strength down the left wing to evade three Skerries defenders and dot down in the corner that
the victory was secured.

A fine win for the home side in what was a thoroughly competitive and enjoyable game to watch.

We have some video of 2 of the Salmo tries on our YouTube channel and the match pics are also up now.
